Integrating Outlook with our CRM using custom addins.

We are always looking for a simpler or better way to do things here at Andisa.
One of the team asked if there was a more automated way to attach emails to our CRM. The answer was an Outlook VSTO addin that could automate the process and stop it being tedious.

The challenge is that when we email a client, we have a manual process to drag and drop the sent item into our CRM. When it happens, customer service improves because everyone can see the email chain easily. When its forgotten we all struggle.

An Outlook AddIn is a tiny program that can be added to Outlook to improve or add features. In our case we created one that checks the email subject for our CRM reference. If it doesn’t exist, it will add it to the subject. It also matches the senders email address against a list of domains to find the right customer record.

It also saves the email to the CRM after sending. Hey presto, better customer service.

It only took us a couple of hours to create using Visual studio dotNet and has made such an improvement on free time and productivity that everyone loves it.
