What Is Fast Start-up?
Fast Start-up is enabled on Windows 11 by default after a recent Windows update. It is a feature that allows your computer to start up faster when you next turn it on. It does this by not fully shutting down and so some programs are constantly running. It does speed up the startup time of computers, but often it also reduces the overall speed and processing time as the computer ends up being left on for days or weeks at a time. It also means that when you try to restart your computer to fix an issue, this fix no longer works as the computer doesn’t fully restart.
How To Turn Fast Start-up Off
- Go to ‘Control Panel’
- Select ‘Hardware and Sound’
- Select ‘Power Options’
- Select ‘Choose what the power buttons do’ from the left-hand menu. You should see the window below:
- Select ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’. Then un-tick ‘Turn on Fast Start-up (recommended)’
- Click ‘Save changes’
- Restart your computer
